Duran is presented in Athens
The cultural review ENEKEN and the
publications of the same title present Ragip Duran's
book , «Exiled
to Thessaloniki, Chronicle of Modern Turkey», in Athens on
Thursday, January 25, 2024 at 19:00, at ESIEA (Akadimias 20,, Athens
– 3rd floor).
The book will be
discussed by MEP Stelios
Kouloglou, Professor of
Political Science at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Cengiz Aktar, the author himself and his publisher, George Yannopoulos.
The presentation
of the book will be followed by the screening of Stelios Kouloglou's
documentary film entitled "My friend Ragip", which records the grim
reality faced by fellow journalists in Turkey.
A few words
about the author and the book:
Mehmet Rag
ı p Duran was born
in 1954 in Istanbul. He studied law in
Aix-en-Provence after graduating from Galataserai
High School in Istanbul. He studied journalism schools CFPJ-Paris and Nieman/ Harvard-Boston.
Journalist since 1978, he worked in
various major newspapers in Turkey (Aydı nlık,
Hürriyet,
Cumhuriyet, Nokta,
Özgür Gündem, , BİA). He was a correspondent for the French news
agency AFP and La Libération
newspaper in Turkey. He also worked in London for the BBC.
He is the author of four books since 1980: With Afghan Fighters, Media with
Epaulette, This İs International Police Radio, Mediamorphoses. He taught
journalism at
Galatasaray
University and Marmara University in Istanbul and
simultaneous interpreting at Bilkent
University in Ankara.
For his work,
books and journalistic activity he was honored with numerous awards both in
Turkey and abroad.
Since 2016 he
lives in Thessaloniki. He writes articles on Turkish issues for the online
publication TVXS.GR while he is a producer of the program "HistoryGeographyMedia" for Özgürüz Radio in Berlin. His website concerns

Duran's book,
introduced by Stelios Kouloglou, is a valuable guide to understanding
contemporary Turkey through the eyes of an experienced and perceptive observer
who serves the profession of journalism with passion and dedication.
It should be noted that most of the articles in
the book were published in the online edition TVXS.GR. The author wrote the texts in French which were translated into Greek by
journalists Nikos Legakis and Nikos Michos. The publisher edited all the
translations. Part of the texts was published in ENEKEN, a Review of Culture
published in Thessaloniki. The texts published on the website Arti Gerçek (Cologne)
and Express 1+1 (Istanbul) into Turkish were translated by Duran and
Giannopoulos who also edited the material of the book.
